Emily O Dean

Dr. Emily Ocker Dean, associate professor of education, MEd reading program director, and director of the HSU Houston-Lantrip Center for Literacy and Learning, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood 教育 from 德州 State University in San Marcos, 德州, in 1997.

For several years, she taught first and second grades in Central and East 德州. In 2002, she received a Master of 教育 in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in reading from 德州 A&M University. She continued her graduate work at 德州 A&M, graduating in 2007 with a Doctor of Philosophy in curriculum and instruction.

She holds valid 德州 teaching certificates as a general education classroom teacher and a reading specialist. She is a Certified Academic Language Therapist and 德州 Licensed Dyslexia Therapist. Dean currently teaches courses in beginning literacy, classroom organization of reading instruction, and graduate level course in reading theory, instruction, and intervention. Additionally, as the director of the Houston- Lantrip Center for Literacy and Learning, she trains dyslexia interventionists, provides language therapy to students with dyslexia, and serves as a community resource on dyslexia and related reading difficulties.

Dean is actively involved in serving children and adults with dyslexia through the International Dyslexia Association and the 德州 Association of Literacy 教育. Additionally, she serves the Abilene community through work with several community organizations. In her free time, Dean enjoys a variety of activities with her husband and three children and is actively involved at her church.
